MANILAslotslv, Philippines — Land Transportation Office chief Vigor Mendoza II yesterday ordered LTO personnel to intensify road visibility amid the expected surge of vehicles during the holiday rush.

Mendoza tasked LTO enforcers to focus the road safety operation on trucks through the deployment of more personnel on usual routes in Metro Manila.

Mendoza said the deployment of LTO personnel should be done at night and early morning, the time when truck bans are lifted by local government units (LGUs).

“The checking should be random and unless there is a violation, they should always be reminded to exercise caution and ensure that the brakes are working,” Mendoza said.

He also tasked LTO enforcers to check the roadworthiness of trucks along expressways.

Mendoza made the directive after he issued show-cause orders to the registered owners and drivers of two trucks involved in two fatal accidents in Quezon City and Parañaque.

The licenses of the drivers were suspended for 90 days. The trucks were placed under alarm.

Several LTO enforcers were deployed along major roads and truck routes in Metro Manila.

The LTO personnel will augment personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authorityslotslv, the traffic units of the LGUs and the Philippine National Police.
