MANILA, Philippines — Newly appointed third-level officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) took their oath on Wednesday at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City.

In a statement on Saturday, DepEd said that 22 schools division superintendents and 25 assistant schools division superintendents were sworn into their leadership roles.

According to Undersecretary Wilfredo Cabral, of DepEd’s Human Resource and Organizational Development, appointing officers-in-charge (OIC) is one of the priorities of Education Secretary Sonny Angara when he assumed his leadership.

“Because I know, there are those who got promoted after five, and 10 years. We have a culture of OIC in DepEd and it’s one of the issues that the Secretary is currently addressing,” said Cabral.

Angara, who administered the oath-taking, expressed his optimism for the newly appointed officials and their roles in fostering education of the youth.

“I’m confident that all of you will be instruments of change — of positive change in your communities. Alam naman ninyo siguro (I think you know) how crucial the role you will be playing in shaping our youth and hopefully involving our communities more in education,” Angara said in his speech.

The education chief also urged to maximize “bayanihan” spirit in uplifting the education sector.

“Sabi ko nga (Like I said), education is everyone’s business not just the Department of Education. It’s the business of families, it’s the business of communities, it’s the business of local governments, local legislators,” Angara added.
